11 May 2014: 15th Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Regatta

Deep Water Bay  Mother s Day! Which genius had the brilliant idea to schedule Deep Water Bay a day after the Stanley Warm Up Race AND on Mother s Day?

Going into the first heat at 0900hrs there was one simple objective  come first or second and avoid the Repechage, thus giving the family men in the crew a few precious hours to wander off and spend with their wives and kids. We were up against the Firemen (AGAIN! Didn t we see enough of them yesterday?) who predictably took P1 in 2:14.22 while we sailed into P2 in 2:17.86. Mission accomplished!

The semi final was our most glorious moment of the day, as we won it with style and form  and importantly, against the RHKYC, which doesn t like to be beaten  and certainly not by us!

But the X Men restored their pride in the final, chasing the Firemen (NEE NAA NEE NAA& ) into a solid P2 and relegating the Sha Tin Fishermen into third and us off the podium into fourth. The heavens agreed that this result was a travesty of justice and promptly opened up and drenched the beach in the greatest torrential rain ever seen!
