October 2002 - Visit to
Hong Kong by the Reigning Prince of Liechtenstein |
|
The Admiralty of the
Liechtenstein Princely Navy is extremely pleased to report on the recent
visit to Hong Kong by its Supreme Commander, HSH Prince Hans-Adam von
und zu Liechtenstein, together with HSH Crown Prince Alois and HSH Prince
Philip, Chairman of LGT Group, the Princely Navy's prime sponsor. |
|
|
|
Their Highnesses were
in town as part of a weeklong Asian tour that took them to Shanghai, Singapore
and finally Hong Kong. On the occasion of a junk boat outing to Lamma
Island the Admiralty was called upon to provide an honor guard of elite
Princely Sailors. |
|
|
His
Highness Prince Hans-Adam was seriously impressed (as well as astonished
and amused) by the presence of his very own naval force dressed
in full Princely Uniform battle fatigues, which represent the colors
of the Liechtenstein flag. Welcomed on board by Admiral Colani and
an elite squad of Princely Sailors, the Supreme Commander extended
his congratulations to the Navy for its recent success at the annual
Dragon Boat races. He conveyed the best wishes of the entire country
to all the dedicated Princely Navy personnel serving selflessly
in the name of Prince and Country.

HSH
Crown Prince Alois, who himself had served with the British Army
in Hong Kong prior to 1997, felt well at ease within the ranks
of Sailors. He wished the Navy best of luck for its future endeavors
in the South China Sea. The Admiralty extended an invitation to
His Highness to join its ranks for the 2003 Dragon Boat Races.
The
Admiralty also briefed Their Highnesses on the rumored plans of
accepting dragon boat racing as a new discipline for the 2008
Olympics in Beijing. In order to compete as a Liechtenstein national
team, many Princely Sailors would obviously need to be issued
with Liechtenstein passports. The Admiralty hopes that His Highness
will take up the matter with the relevant sports and immigration
authorities in Liechtenstein. |

The evening
proceeded smoothly, apart from an incident upon boarding in Central,
whereby a member of the Princely delegation almost fell into the
murky waters of the Hong Kong harbor. Thanks to the swift reaction
of our sailors, the incident only resulted in a lost pair of spectacles.
The delegation then proceeded to a seafood dinner on Lamma Island,
whereby large quantities of Foster's - the Princely Navy Fuel
- were consumed on the way. The Admiralty accepts Their Highnesses
active own consumption as full approval to the choice of fuel
supplier.

With
the 2003 Dragon Boat season soon upon us, the Admiralty is looking
with confidence and the full support of its Supreme Commander to
the challenge ahead. |
